Meet Scott MacIntyre

Maybe you were watching American Idol the night Paula Abdul called Scott, the show’s first blind finalist, “an inspiration to the entire world…” But there is so much more to his story than the little bit we saw on TV—and you can hear it in person at Women of Faith ONE DAY.

Scott was a musical prodigy with a bright future directly ahead… until the day the music stopped. “The worst day of my life began as the best day of my life,” Scott says. “But I wouldn’t change a moment. It has made me who I am.”

God used the mountains and valleys of Scott’s life to give him incredible hope. He’ll share that hope with audiences nationwide at the brand-new Women of Faith ONE DAY events beginning this month. (He’ll sing, too!)

See Scott at Women of Faith ONE DAY with Sheila Walsh, Ken Davis (in some cities, David Pendleton), and the Women of Faith Worship Team.

He Chose Us

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. — 1 John 1:9

My first boyfriend, John Pitter, was an eleven-year-old foster kid who lived temporarily in my neighborhood.

One day Pitter-Patter, as I called him, suggested we sneak into the church and snack on the communion crackers. I was horrified but soon found myself sitting beside Pitter-Patter on the church floor munching away. Feeling nauseated, I trudged home later carrying a huge load of guilt and shame.

When I confessed my sin of stealing to my father, the church’s pastor, he kindly assured me God would forgive me. We prayed together, and I thought I’d feel better.

But I didn’t. I persistently sensed that I was bad. I believed God wouldn’t forgive me and would surely reject me.

Soon after that, Pitter-Patter abruptly disappeared from my life. His foster mom said he had been adopted.

I believed it was only a matter of time before I would be removed from my home, too, especially when my parents figured out that God had ditched me. My fears were completely illogical, of course, but emotions lack logic. They have no common sense!

Perhaps you, too, in some way have felt like you got ditched. Honey, if that’s the case, you’re not alone. But I’ve got great news for you. The Bible assures us that the moment we confess our sin and receive the forgiveness for which Jesus died, God promises he will never abandon us. He chose us. He loves us and will never leave us.

I know that now. I wish I could tell Pitter-Patter.

She Said, He Says

She said . . .

I confess that I don’t feel very lovable. I don’t have many close friends; I haven’t yet found that one person to share my life with.

I want love—no, I need love. I have looked everywhere for love, and I have learned the hard way that I will really only find true love in You.

When I think about it, it’s almost too much to take in. You love me! Me with all of my failings. Me with all of my flaws. Unlovely, unlovable me. How can that be? You are the God of the universe. You are the Creator and Sustainer of all things. You are the Holy One. And yet you reach down to take my hand and guide me. You draw me close. You wrap me in your everlasting arms.

This is beyond my comprehension, but I know that I don’t need to understand—I merely need to accept, to love in return, and to glorify you in how I live.

I am not unlovable, dear Savior, because You have loved me.

He says . . .

Nothing can separate you from My Love. Let this divine assurance trickle through your mind and into your heart and soul. Whenever you start to feel fearful or anxious, repeat this unconditional promise: “Nothing can separate me from Your Love, Jesus.”

Most of mankind’s misery stems from feeling unloved. In the midst of adverse circumstances, people tend to feel that love has been withdrawn and they have been forsaken. This feeling of abandonment is often worse than the adversity itself. Be assured that I never abandon any of My children, not even temporarily. I will never leave you or forsake you! My Presence watches over you continually. I have engraved you on the palms of my hands.

"For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

Don’t Get Bitten – by Lisa Harper

Lisa HarperWe’re all broken . . . and sometimes that comes out.

Some people (even Christians) will occasionally “bite us.”

Lisa Harper reminds us to be wise in our relationships—and remember that our identity isn’t based on other people, but on who we are in Christ.

Lord, Show Me Where to Start – by Joni Eareckson Tada

Lord, Show Me Where to Start by Joni Eareckson Tada

How shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? —Romans 10:14

When Vesta Sauter, founder of Deaf Opportunity Out Reach (Door), first arrived in Romania to minister to the Deaf, she had a real problem. (Because Deaf communities function like cultural and language groups, Deaf Americans prefer a capital D.) How could she find Deaf people? Bucharest is a huge city, and no one seemed able to help Vesta.

If God wants me to minister,
she thought, he’ll have to show me where to start.

In a taxi she searched the streets, looking for anyone . . . anything . . . that might be a clue. As the cab passed an overgrown, trash-strewn city park, she saw a man standing on the corner—signing to another man! In a flash, Vesta was introducing herself.

That night, the two men took her to their Deaf club’s meeting, where Vesta signed to the group, “I want to tell you about Jesus. He is alive, and he wants a relationship with you, the Deaf people!”

From that first encounter, an amazing ministry developed. In the next several years, DOOR sent more than thirty mission teams to Romania and saw five Deaf churches planted. Those church members then coordinated an outreach to the Deaf in thirty-plus Romanian cities!

Imagine what can happen when you pray to God, “Show me where to start.”

Just Do It – by Ken Davis

The hardest part of almost any task or challenge we face is getting started. I am an expert at sitting on my rear while I analyze how difficult a task is going to be, agonize over how long it will take mull over whether I will be able to do it to perfection. A friend of ours, who happens to run one of the most successful fortune five hundred companies in the world, put it well. “Anything worth doing is worth doing poorly the first time.”

JUST DO IT. You can always improve on it once you have started.

My friend, Eric Alexander, helped guide the first blind man to the peak of Mount Everest. He had to do more than just dream about reaching the summit. He didn’t sit around worrying because a blind man had never been on the summit before. They made it! But it would have never happened if he had hadn’t taken that first step, crossed that first stream, established that first base camp.

What have you got to do today?
What have you got to do?
Apologize?
Exercise?
Run or just have fun?
Read?
Ride?
Forgive and let live?
Admit?
Commit?
Study and learn?
What have you got to do today?
What have you got to do?

JUST DO IT!

Calendar Chaos – by Beth Ackerman

Calendar Chaos

I took my college entrance exam the morning after my high school prom. Though not wise, the low test score that I achieved landed me in a study skills course my freshmen year in college, a course that gave me tools to help successfully complete my degrees. One of the most critical skills that I gained in this course was organizing my chaotic calendar.

Steven Covey, author of 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, encourages us to “start with the end in mind”. He suggests that you start planning your life goals by writing your own obituary. Covey further states that our calendars should reflect what is important in life. How is God’s purpose in our life reflected in our day to day calendar activities?

Our calendars should include times and commitments of study, work, exercise, devotion, family, friends, church, solitude, etc. For example, I wrote my dissertation from 5–8 am for one year straight, even when some mornings all I could do is stare blankly into a computer. I still try my best to practice this discipline as I juggle work and family to include my active four and six year olds. However, I would suggest that you don’t put on your calendar to take a test after a big event (say, like a prom). We should all take the time to organize and fill our calendar with time commitments for success in life!

Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 2 Timothy 2:15 NKJV

Heaven is for Real (and You’re Going to Like It!)

Heaven is for Real for Kids
A little boy’s astounding story of his trip to heaven and back

“Not everyone gets to visit heaven and come back to earth, but Colton did!

When Colton was almost four, he became very sick. His mom and dad took him to the hospital so he could get better, but while he as there an amazing thing happened. Colton closed his eyes, and when he opened them—

Jesus was with him!

Angels were there too, and then Jesus had an angel carry him to heaven. This is Colton’s story.”

Children need someone to feed and watch over them, someone to pick them up when they fall, someone to run to when they are scared, someone to teach them about life as they grow up. Above all else, children need someone to teach them about Jesus and His importance for this life and the life to come.

Heaven is for Real for Kids is just that—a child’s experience of his time in heaven, written in his voice, with his words—a book to be shared with other children.
